WRONG TURN, RIGHT TOWN
A Documentary Film
Forty-five years of Heavenly Pizza
The life and faith of JOHN HILL Heavenly Pizza · Tiffin, Ohio
The Film
The town they never meant to find.
In January of 1981, a nineteen-year-old in Detroit gave his life to the Lord. By that summer he and his best friend had bought what equipment they could afford and set out for Ohio to find a building.
They took a wrong turn, and ended up in Tiffin.
What they found there was a closed pizza shop with a for-rent sign in the window — and, inside, the exact equipment they still needed. They opened their doors on September 1, 1981.
Forty-five years later there are multiple locations, programs and events reaching students and families across different counties, a park under construction, and the same unwavering faith at the foundation of it all.
This is not a commercial for Heavenly Pizza. It is the story of a young man who set out to build a workplace unlike the ones he had worked in as a teenager, and who has spent forty-five years insisting he was not the one steering. The pizza is simply the evidence.
The film closes where it opened: on the road into Tiffin.
.
Narrative Arc
Five movements.
I — Detroit, 1981
A nineteen-year-old who found faith in January and was gone by summer. The pizza kitchens he worked in as a teenager, and what he wanted instead — not a business so much as a different kind of room to work in. The act ends with two friends, a load of secondhand equipment, and no address.
II — The Wrong Turn
Tiffin. The for-rent sign. The equipment already sitting inside the building. And the children playing outside the door while they cleaned it — the first one to answer said his name was AJ, which was already the name on the paperwork. Doors open September 1, 1981. This act is the reason the film exists, and it should be told slowly.
III — The Lean Years
What it actually took. The early business pains. The hard work. The things that did not work, the payroll that nearly did not make it, the conversations at the kitchen table and other pivotal moments. Told with care, and with John's blessing. Provision does not mean much until you have seen what it was provision from, and this is the act that separates a documentary from a testimonial.
IV — Forty-Five Years
Specific moments, with names and dates — told by John, but also by the people who were there. Family, friends, and employees who are a part of the story. Multiple locations. A town that became home.
V — Handing It On
Josh and Keisha in Findlay. Heavenly Hygiene, and the other programs/events that have been built. And a park taking shape in Tiffin — built for the town, not for the business. The film ends not at a ribbon cutting but on unfinished ground, with a man who has been greatly blessed and has more work in front of him, who has been able to be a blessing to others, which as he tells it was the plan all along. He has two things he still wants to hand you, and they have not changed since 1981: his testimony, and a good slice of pizza.

The Legacy Interview Archive — $1,700
The raw footage is yours either way, at no charge. This archive add-on makes it usable: every interview professionally transcribed, in its entirety. The finished film will use a small percentage of what is recorded. These are full interviews, lightly edited (colored with minor audio adjustments) and put on a flash drive.
How It Works

From first conversation to final film.
Approximately 90 days from start to delivery.

1. Story Pre-Planning: Initial conversation and understanding of the story (this has been completed). Confirming who will be in the film. I create a shot plan, a shooting schedule, and a set of questions for every person we interview.
2. Principal Videography: Two kinds of days. Interview days, where I set up in one room and interviewees come through on a schedule. And B-roll days, where I film the pizza shops, the town, and the work as it happens, with nothing required from anyone.
3. Rough Cut: You see the full film in assembled form — story locked, before final touches. This is the moment for substantive feedback.
4. Revisions: Your notes, applied. Then final color grading, sound mix, and titles.
5. Delivery: Final masters, trailer, and any additional cuts included in your tier.

What I will need from you
Access to family and business photographs, home video, newspaper clippings, and early business records for scanning. The more, the better — Act One depends on it.
Introductions to the interview subjects.
One consolidated set of notes at the rough cut.
